Ahhh! Utahhh!

Utah had a great time hosting the Winter Olympics in 2002. The whole state had a facelift. New freeways and a light rail system where just part of the major improvements. The Park City/Deer Valley area hosted several of the venues and this quaint little town dazzled the visitors with its mountain resort charm.

Salt Lake Valley, only 20 minutes from Park City, is 25 miles long and 22 miles wide and is bordered by the Rocky Mountains’ Wasatch Range on the east . Elevation at the highest peak of the Wasatch Mountains is 11,5000 feet. Salt Lake’s elevation is 4,330 feet. This mountain range receives an average snowfall of 530 inches annually. The dry air here makes the snowfall light and powdery, hence, the greatest snow on earth.

Along with Salt Lake’s stunning natural setting, it now offers a more sophisticated downtown. This includes a new and impressive Gateway Mall with shops, restaurants, movie theaters, an Imax screen and soon to open, the Children’s Museum and Planetarium. At the Gateway Mall in the Galyan’s Sport Store is a 75 foot climbing wall.

The number one visitor spot for tourist is Temple Square. On Thursday evenings you can come listen to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir practice at the Tabernacle there on Temple Square. During December they have 1.5 million holiday lights shimmering in the evenings. Take a carriage ride around the downtown area offered next to Temple Square.
Looking for more things to do entertain your young ones? Not far from the downtown area is the Fun Dome. Here kids can go bowl, eat, do batting practice, play miniature golf and more all inside. You take I-15 to 4998 S 360 West. If you travel a little farther , you can eat at the Mayan Restaurant. It has a Disneyland’s Raiders of the Lost Ark motif. While dining you are entertained with a high dive show. More fun things to see are listed below.
